-They are unaware of the danger.-

Later in a day soon hence, we pitched the dining tent to cook, eat and be free of flying insects.
Dark, very dark the night as we cook and prepare.
Then a sound, no, an other worldly sound not meant for human ears. We froze and we listened.
We; next to a river and in a valley as a storm system moved in with the its rushing air and pressure.
Sounds hauntingly like a 100 freight trains, reverberating the air and our ears.
We stared in salience and my family looked to me, because even I was in stark wonderment of what was unfolding.
As we listened, I became aware of this, and said: " We will never hear anything like this again." It is a storm system moving in through the valley and reverberating in just such a way to hear what we are hearing.
I said: " We are going to get rain and a lot of it".
We prepared, we ate and we played our game as the deluge. Drips came through, but we just smirked. Cut short our game, and off to slumber we went. ~LArry.</text>

Just once.

And baby, your love runs as deep as the ocean

You're the love of my life
And you're the melody to every song that I sing
It's like a symphony playing over, and over in my mind
You take me places I.ve never been before
The feeling is so sublime

There's no other place that I'd rather be
Than right here by your side
Cause no other love has opened my heart
The way you do my darling

Every day of my life,
I thank the Lord for sending me someone like you
And you're the reason I can't stop smiling
You're my gift from above

Just when I thought love was not for me
You came along and changed my point of view
Baby you gave me everything
I don't ever want this feeling to end......

                <text>Written after seeing Millet’s World-Famous Painting

God made man in His own image,
in the image of God made He him. —Genesis.
Bowed by the weight of centuries he leans
Upon his hoe and gazes on the ground,
The emptiness of ages in his face,
And on his back the burden of the world.
Who made him dead to rapture and despair,
A thing that grieves not and that never hopes,
Stolid and stunned, a brother to the ox?
Who loosened and let down this brutal jaw?
Whose was the hand that slanted back this brow?
Whose breath blew out the light within this brain?
Is this the Thing the Lord God made and gave
To have dominion over sea and land;
To trace the stars and search the heavens for power;
To feel the passion of Eternity?
Is this the Dream He dreamed who shaped the suns
And marked their ways upon the ancient deep?
Down all the stretch of Hell to its last gulf
There is no shape more terrible than this—
More tongued with censure of the world’s blind greed—
More filled with signs and portents for the soul—
More fraught with danger to the universe.

What gulfs between him and the seraphim!
Slave of the wheel of labor, what to him
Are Plato and the swing of Pleiades?
What the long reaches of the peaks of song,
The rift of dawn, the reddening of the rose?
Through this dread shape the suffering ages look;
Time’s tragedy is in that aching stoop;
Through this dread shape humanity betrayed,
Plundered, profaned and disinherited,
Cries protest to the Judges of the World,
A protest that is also prophecy.

O masters, lords and rulers in all lands,
is this the handiwork you give to God,
This monstrous thing distorted and soul-quenched ?
How will you ever straighten up this shape;
Touch it again with immortality;
Give back the upward looking and the light;
Rebuild in it the music and the dream;
Make right the immemorial infamies,
Perfidious wrongs, immedicable woes?

O masters, lords and rulers in all lands,
How will the Future reckon with this Man?
How answer his brute question in that hour
When whirlwinds of rebellion shake the world?
How will it be with kingdoms and with kings—
With those who shaped him to the thing he is—
When this dumb Terror shall reply to God
After the silence of the centuries?</text>

                <text>“The magic eyes of my beloved.”

I have seen a beauty in your eyes

that human eyes have never seen.

You are my angel, my dearest being,

In your eyes I see the moon slowly rising.

In your hypnotic eyes the stars twinkle,

From them comes the melody of a beguiling lyre.

And it's your magic eyes that beckon me

in my deceptive dreams and prevailing reality.

I once gazed intently into your dark eyes,

There I found my paradise, my eternal rest.

Whenever I look into the blue sky,

I stare into your deep azure eyes.

You breathe in the blue sky through your eyes

And you exhale the beauty that fills the empty skies.

What eyes must elevate themselves to infinity.

When heaven can be found by looking into the eyes of your beloved?

Your eyes behold my world, and I see through them.

They show me the invisible things I write about in my poems.

Your eyes are so beautiful and delightful,

May they be painted with mascara like a speck on the moon.

                <text>I am the moon
Radiant, elegant, graceful
Romantic, inspiring, guiding
People look up to me to guide them in soul-searching and to give advice
Admire my beauty
People on Earth look up to me for help or sheer delight
Everyone mingling, bound to collide with their soulmate
But I'm estranged from the planet, with stars my nearest companions
Little insignificant balls of gases--intangible
Beautiful from afar
Marred and full of craters up close
Who will find beauty in that?
Most don't appreciate the light I provide
Others do
But the light isn't my own
I simply reflect the sun's light not having enough power and experience to generate my own light
I slowly reveal myself and on rare occaisons totally expose myself for the world to see
Other times I completely vanish and turn invisible and no one seems to notice
Except when it's marked on a calendar
I want to belong
I gravitate to Earth, I'm falling
Yet the force is enough to push me away
Keep me running in circles to constantly help others
Always making appearances for others
When will I be able to rest, for me?
The sun will burn out, but I won't
But then I won't be beautiful anymore
Just a ball of dust full of dents.
This is an old poem I wrote when I was about 18. I haven't written much of anything in years, but I came across this site and I've been inspired. However, I figured I'd make my debut with a poem in reference to my username. © Nov 2010, Kay Ortiz</text>
